Your role is essential in shaping the future of AI's capabilities in the realm of chemistry. In this role, you’ll support a research department by developing difficult, domain-specific questions that probe and illuminate the limitations of modern AI models. You'll also perform peer reviews of questions developed by others.

    Your undergraduate or graduate degree—and experience as a faculty member, researcher, or professional in Organic and Inorganic Chemistry—provide a strong foundation for developing and evaluating AI content with precision and depth.

    Your strong command of English grammar, writing, editing, and proofreading ensures all materials meet the highest standards. You excel at writing clear, concise summaries and thoroughly reviewing written content for accuracy.

    Whether you've served as a professor, teaching assistant, editor, or consultant, your ability to work both independently and collaboratively—asynchronously and in occasional live discussions—supports effective teamwork and shared success.

  • Creative Problem-Solving

    Your experience in research, exam development, or professional consulting equips you to craft challenging prompts and provide thoughtful feedback that pushes the boundaries of AI understanding in chemistry.

  • Enthusiasm for AI and Chemistry

    Your passion for the intersection of science and technology drives continuous learning and innovation. Prior experience in test item writing, exam scoring, or AI is a huge plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily Expectations for Your Role

As a Chemistry Subject Matter Expert, your contributions will directly support the advancement of AI’s understanding of complex scientific domains. In this role, you will:

  • Develop advanced, domain-specific questions that test the limits of AI models in Organic and Inorganic Chemistry.

  • Peer-review questions submitted by fellow subject matter experts to ensure scientific accuracy and clarity.

  • Collaborate asynchronously with a remote team of researchers to refine content and maintain quality standards.

  • Contribute to a cutting-edge initiative that is reshaping how AI is trained using expert human knowledge.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications for Success

Your academic and professional background will be key to elevating the performance and reliability of AI systems. We are seeking candidates who possess:

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in Organic or Inorganic Chemistry or a closely related discipline.

  • A professional or academic focus in Organic and Inorganic Chemistry.

  • Recent experience in the field as a:

    • Professor, Lecturer, or Instructor

    • Graduate Assistant or Teaching Assistant (undergraduate or graduate level)

    • Researcher or Editorial Board Member

    • Consultant, Adviser, or other field expert

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with excellent English grammar.

  • The ability to write clear, concise, and scientifically accurate questions and summaries.

  • High attention to detail when reviewing and editing written content.

  • The ability to work independently and asynchronously, with occasional live meetings to align on project goals.

  • A reliable computer and internet connection.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in test item writing, exam development or scoring, or work with AI systems.

Pay Structure

  • Compensation is based on output: you will be paid per question that passes peer review and per peer review completed.

  • Strong performance is expected to result in the equivalent of $30/hour.

Schedule & Location

  • Set your own schedule: Work anytime, ideally between 8–40 hours per week.

  • Remote role: Open to candidates in U.S. time zones

  • This is an independent contractor position staffed via a staffing agency.
