About the Role

We’re hiring an HR Generalist to support day-to-day People Operations for a fast-growing technology company in San Francisco. In this role, you’ll support employees throughout the full employee lifecycle, with particular ownership across benefits administration, 401(k) programs, immigration, onboarding and offboarding, compliance, and general HR operations.

You’ll serve as a trusted resource for employees while partnering closely with internal stakeholders, benefits brokers, retirement plan administrators, immigration counsel, and other HR providers. This is a strong fit for an experienced HR professional who enjoys building efficient processes, solving employee questions, and working in a high-growth environment where priorities and processes continue to evolve.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employees regarding HR policies, benefits, payroll-related questions, and general People Operations support.

  • Administer employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, leave programs, and other employee offerings.

  • Support the ongoing administration of the company’s 401(k) retirement plan, including employee questions, enrollments, changes, and coordination with plan providers.

  • Coordinate employment-based immigration and work authorization processes, including documentation, deadlines, renewals, and employee communication.

  • Partner with outside immigration counsel and internal stakeholders on immigration-related matters.

  • Manage employee onboarding and offboarding to help create a smooth and consistent experience.

  • Support employee lifecycle changes, including promotions, compensation changes, leaves of absence, and terminations.

  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation within HR systems.

  • Support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment requirements.

  • Partner with benefits brokers, retirement plan administrators, immigration counsel, and other HR vendors.

  • Assist with employee relations matters and escalate complex situations when appropriate.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline HR processes and support additional People and HR initiatives as the organization grows.

Qualifications for Success

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in an HR Generalist, People Operations, or similar HR role.

  • Hands-on experience administering employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, and related benefit offerings.

  • Experience supporting or administering a 401(k) retirement plan, including employee support and coordination with third-party plan administrators.

  • Experience supporting employment-based immigration and work authorization processes.

  • Experience coordinating with immigration counsel and employees on documentation, deadlines, and renewals.

  • Strong understanding of HR operations across onboarding, offboarding, employee changes, and HR documentation.

  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR compliance requirements.

  • Experience working with HRIS and benefits administration platforms.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple time-sensitive employee matters.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • High level of discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential employee information.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving technology environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting employees in California.

  • Familiarity with California employment requirements.

  • Experience working within an AI, technology, startup, or high-growth organization.

  • Experience developing or improving HR processes during periods of rapid organizational growth.

  • Experience partnering directly with benefits brokers.

  • Experience partnering directly with 401(k) providers and immigration counsel.

Compensation & Logistics

  • Pay: $55.00–$65.00 per hour

  • Location: San Francisco, California

  • Work setup: Onsite

  • Schedule: Full time

  • Hours: Monday through Friday, approximately 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

  • Assignment type: Contract-to-hire
