About the Role
We’re seeking a skilled and experienced engineering-focused Vehicle Technician to join our team and support the readiness of a cutting-edge fleet of autonomous vehicles. In this role, you’ll perform maintenance, repairs, and contribute towards the operations of the lab. This includes scheduled service, diagnostics, repair coordination, lab space fit/function, and general upkeep. This is an exciting opportunity to work with an on-demand autonomous ride-hailing company, helping shape the future of transportation.

Responsibilities – Daily Expectations for Your Role

  • Configure, set up, maintain, diagnose, and sign off on vehicles for safe on-road usage.

  • May need to travel locally to perform this work from time to time.

  • Sync with Shop Foreman to ensure all vehicles are in a “ready” state for demonstration and testing requirements.

  • Perform diagnostics and escalate to the appropriate engineering team if required.

  • Coordinate and drive the repair process.

  • Create diagnostic test plans as the team sees fit.

  • Maintain service records and document quality field reports.

  • Maintain shop facilities, ensure tools are in order, and workspace is in excellent working condition.

  • Assist with parts inventory, location, and organization.

  • Build an excellent service experience for internal teams and business partners.

Qualifications – What It Takes

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of prior automotive technician experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of methods, techniques, parts, tools, and materials used in the maintenance and repair of vehicles.

  • Must have a valid driver's license with a clean/excellent driving record.

  • Reliable, self-starter, roll-up-the-sleeves work ethos.

  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects and deliverables.

  • Team player.

  • Excellent written and verbal skills.

  • Must be honest, responsible and an outstanding communicator.

  • Pass a background check, MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) check, and drug screen.

  • Must comply with the Substance Abuse Policy.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and sit/stand for extended periods (8+ hours) depending on the equipment type.

  • Forklift and/or gantry operation is required: Current and valid forklift operator certification compliant with Cal/OSHA standards

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an automotive-focused engineering or research lab (i.e. Dyno, Battery, etc.).

  • Knowledge of CAN, wiring diagrams and soldering preferred.

  • Experience and ability to tow a car hauler and other large trailers to transport fleet vehicles.

  • Technical trade school certificate or Associate Degree in automotive repair.

  • Ability to travel locally and nationally (on occasion)

Schedule

  • 8:00am-4:30pm: Tue-Sat, Wed-Sun, Thur-Mon, or Sun-Thur

  • 2:00pm-10:30pm: Sun-Thur, Tue-Sat, Thur-Mon, Wed-Sun, or Fri-Tue
