About the Role
We’re hiring an engineering-focused Vehicle Technician to support the readiness of our client’s fleet vehicles in San Francisco. This is a hands-on automotive technician role for candidates with strong maintenance, diagnostics, and repair experience who can help keep vehicles safe, road-ready, and prepared for testing and demonstration.

This role is best suited for experienced Auto Techs with solid recent vehicle technician experience rather than candidates whose backgrounds are primarily in auto body, equipment maintenance, or basic service-only work. You’ll partner closely with a Shop Foreman, complete repairs and fleet reworks, maintain detailed service records, and escalate more complex issues to engineering teams when needed.

Core Attributes
Advanced Automotive Repair Judgment: You bring strong technician-level experience in vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, and repair, and you know how to move issues toward resolution.

Diagnostic Discipline: You troubleshoot methodically, document findings clearly, and know when to escalate more complex concerns.

Fleet Readiness Focus: You understand how maintenance quality, repair speed, and follow-through affect vehicle availability and safe on-road operation.

Workshop Ownership: You help maintain a clean, organized, high-functioning shop environment with strong attention to tools, parts, and workspace standards.

Execution Under Pace: You can manage multiple repair priorities in a fast-moving environment without losing quality or accuracy.

Team-Based Problem Solving: You work closely with a Shop Foreman and partner teams to keep work moving and support operational goals.

Professional Communication: You provide clear updates, maintain accurate records, and contribute to strong handoffs across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, set up, maintain, diagnose, and sign off on vehicles for safe on-road operation.

  • Perform scheduled and preventative maintenance and services across fleet vehicles.

  • Complete repairs and fleet reworks to support vehicle readiness.

  • Partner with the Shop Foreman to ensure vehicles are in a ready state for testing and demonstration.

  • Perform diagnostics and escalate complex issues to engineering teams as needed.

  • Coordinate and drive the repair process from diagnosis through resolution.

  • Develop diagnostic test plans to support troubleshooting and validation.

  • Maintain detailed service records and document quality field reports.

  • Keep shop facilities, tools, and workspaces organized and in excellent condition.

  • Assist with parts inventory, storage, and organization.

  • Deliver a high-quality internal service experience for stakeholders and partner teams.

  • Travel locally as needed to support fleet operations.

Qualifications for Success
Minimum Requirements:

  • 2–4 years of technician experience.

  • Strong hands-on automotive maintenance, diagnostics, and repair experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of methods, techniques, parts, tools, and materials used in vehicle maintenance and repair.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean/excellent driving record.

  • Reliable, self-starter, roll-up-your-sleeves work style.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Honest, responsible, and collaborative approach to work.

  • Ability to pass a background check, MVR check, and drug screen.

  • Ability to comply with the Substance Abuse Policy.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and sit/stand for extended periods of time (8+ hours), depending on equipment type.

  • Current and valid forklift operator certification compliant with Cal/OSHA standards; forklift and/or gantry operation is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an automotive-focused engineering or research lab, such as dyno or battery environments.

  • Knowledge of CAN, wiring diagrams, and soldering.

  • Experience towing a car hauler or other large trailers to transport fleet vehicles.

  • Technical trade school certificate or Associate Degree in automotive repair.

  • Ability to travel locally and nationally on occasion.

  • Prior autonomous vehicle industry experience.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Expected pay: $46.00–$50.00 per hour

  • Benefits include pre-tax commuter benefits, employer-subsidized healthcare coverage, flexible spending account (FSA), disability and life insurance, and a 401(k) retirement plan

Working Environment

  • Location: San Francisco, CA

  • Schedule: Full time; multiple 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift schedules may be available, including weekday and weekend coverage

  • Travel: Local travel as needed; national travel on occasion if applicable
