About the Role

Our client is seeking a Senior People Operations Generalist to serve as an operational backbone for the People team during a period of significant growth and scale. This part-time, six-month contract is designed for an experienced People Operations professional who has progressed beyond administering processes and is ready to take ownership of how systems, data, programs, and operational practices work and scale.

You’ll independently navigate complex employee matters, strengthen reporting and data integrity, identify operational gaps, and lead cross-functional initiatives without formal authority. The role works closely with People team members, leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders to turn reliable People data and well-designed processes into better operational decisions.

Core Attributes

  • Operational Ownership: You proactively identify People Operations gaps and drive solutions rather than waiting for work to be assigned.

  • Workday Fluency: You can confidently use Workday to support People processes, reporting, data integrity, and operational decision-making.

  • Data-Driven Judgment: You know how to translate People data into accurate, actionable information for leadership.

  • Independent Problem-Solving: You can navigate ambiguous, sensitive, or high-stakes employee matters with sound judgment.

  • Cross-Functional Influence: You can lead initiatives, align stakeholders, and move work forward without relying on formal authority.

  • Process Scalability: You evaluate how policies, systems, and workflows operate today and improve them for organizational growth.

  • Compliance Awareness: You proactively recognize employment-related risks and help maintain processes aligned with applicable requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Help develop and execute the strategy and roadmap for People data and reporting.

  • Own data integrity standards and help define actionable People insights for leadership decision-making.

  • Serve as an escalation point for complex employee matters involving benefits, leaves, time off, rotations, and other People Operations programs.

  • Lead cross-functional People Operations initiatives that improve and scale processes, policies, and operational infrastructure.

  • Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment requirements and proactively identify potential risks.

  • Build and maintain reporting and dashboard infrastructure for the People team and leadership.

  • Set priorities and coordinate work across cross-functional People Operations projects.

  • Mentor and support junior team members without formal reporting authority.

  • Identify gaps in operational processes and cadence and drive improvements.

  • Maintain clear documentation of People processes, system configurations, and operational decisions.

Qualifications for Success

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5+ years of progressive People Operations, HR Operations, or closely related experience.

  • Demonstrated experience owning People programs or processes rather than solely administering them.

  • Workday experience and genuine fluency using the platform in a People Operations environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives and influence peers and stakeholders without formal authority.

  • Experience independently navigating ambiguous, sensitive, or complex employee matters.

  • Strong data orientation with experience supporting reporting, data integrity, or People analytics.

  • Ability to work onsite in Sunnyvale, California.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building or maintaining People reporting and dashboard infrastructure.

  • Experience improving People processes, policies, systems, or operational cadence in a growing organization.

  • Experience mentoring or informally leading junior colleagues.

  • Experience supporting benefits, leaves, time-off programs, rotations, or related People Operations programs.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay: $45.00–$60.00 USD per hour.

Working Environment

  • Location: Sunnyvale, CA, United States.

  • Work environment: In-person.

  • Onsite expectation: 5 days per week.

  • Schedule: Part time, usually 10+ hours per week; open to full-time.

  • Contract length: 6 months.

    • This is currently a part-time contract role with potential conversion to full-time based on business needs and performance.
